“’You said that He is indeed everywhere, so why can He not be seen in this pillar? If I do see that Vishnu right now in the middle of the pillar, then I will not kill you. Otherwise, you will be divided into two.’ Having seen (his father) in that way, Prahlada began to meditate on that Supreme Lord.” (Narasimha Purana, 44.10-11)

“I am sure these discussions are steady across the timeline of existence. That is to say, choose any arbitrary period from history and you will likely see this issue debated. The believers against the nonbelievers. The followers against the heathens. Those who attribute everything to a single individual, who is God, against those who think that there is no central controlling authority, that there is no long-term consequence to action, that life begins at conception and ends at death. The believers point to their books. This is the proof, you see. The nonbelievers exploit this as a vulnerability. They insist on empirical data, to prove there is a God. In other words, the challenge is for the believers to show God. Show Him to me right now. If He really exists, then He will manifest.
“The problem I have with this approach is that the ones insisting are usually cheaters. They are not honest. They are not straightforward. They are not prepared for an open debate, with equal time given to both sides. My supporting evidence for the claim is the general landscape of science and medicine in the modern day. I am telling you, they are all cheaters. The vast majority of them. The ones who are honest must stay hidden, way in the back of the room. They cannot speak up, for fear of losing their coveted positions. The ones that actually cure patients face the threat of their license being revoked; I kid you not.
“There are countless examples to highlight the absurdity. Look no further than the beginning of life, when they pump the newborn full of toxins. One of the injections they give was tested against one hundred and forty-seven newborns. Those infants were then monitored for five days. That is it. No placebo group. Since everything looked okay, the injection was licensed for use. It is practically forced upon parents nowadays. If your child doesn’t get this injection, they cannot attend school. If they have the virus that the injection supposedly protects against, then no issue. They can show up to school infected, but they must be first injected. Make it make sense.
“In an honest world, I could conduct my own experiment. I could take one hundred and forty-seven newborns and not give them the injection. I monitor them for five days. If everything checks out, then my standard of medicine can be licensed for use. That is only fair. I am using the same scientific method as the proponents. In fact, I have thousands of years of human history as supporting evidence. My side has overwhelming data to use. The side of scientists has nothing, by comparison.
“Mind you, this is only for one injection, forced upon newborns, but the same principle applies across every aspect of care. The recommendations for people to shelter in place, for upwards of two years, in fear of a virus. Obstruction of breathing, but not when eating at a restaurant or protesting in public. The treatments for cancer. The overreliance on medications, while ignoring changes to lifestyle. The list goes on and on.
“Why should these people be offered a seat at the table, then, when discussing spiritual topics? They are dishonest to their core. What kind of evidence would ever satisfy them, when the evidence is out there to debunk their currently held beliefs? They subscribe to one fraud after another, if you ask me. We shouldn’t be appealing to their sensibilities. We should be exposing them every day, without shame.”
This is one of the reasons for the strong language employed by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada when discussing modern science. There is a flaw in the premise, at the foundation. Everything focuses on the externals, on the body. The problem is that the body is temporary. It was accepted at some point. It will be rejected in the future. This is the guaranteed fate. This is why the mature human being has no greater fear. Shri Rama compares it to the ripened fruit hanging from the tree.
यथा फलानां पक्वानां नान्यत्र पतनाद्भयम्
एवं नरस्य जातस्य नान्यत्र मरणाद्भयम्yathā phalānāṃ pakvānāṃ nānyatra patanādbhayam
evaṃ narasya jātasya nānyatra maraṇādbhayam“As a ripe fruit has no other fear than to fall, so a man who is born has no other fear than death.” (Lord Rama, Valmiki Ramayana, Ayodhya Kand, 105.17)
The issue with insisting upon empirical evidence begins at the foundation. When the proposal is written, when the experiment is drawn out, there are limitations. Rather than agree on the need for empirical evidence, ask the scientists to first develop a proper experiment. Let them draw out the parameters, in what they would hope or expect to see in the outcomes. Once those outcomes are visible, then their doubts will be satisfactorily resolved.
The problem is that there is no outcome that will meet the conditions. This is because of a basic limitation in perception. We do not have access to the infinite past. We do not have access to the infinite future. If someone presented themselves before me today, claiming to be God, that should be empirical evidence. The problem is that I need them to prove that they existed in the past, prior to my ability to perceive. How will they prove that? Moreover, they should prove that they will never die. How will I be able to validate, when I must die myself? This means that it is impossible to prove God through empirical evidence.
A wise person like Arjuna takes the word of a trusted and esteemed authority figure. Shri Krishna claims that there are previous births. Arjuna, though not a scientist, still carries the ability to perceive. Though he is only a bow-warrior, he can conduct a rudimentary scientific experiment. Can he remember past lives? Obviously, he cannot. Krishna can, and so Krishna is different. Krishna knows the future, as well.

A five-year-old child named Prahlada has more brains than the scientist, in revealing that God is sarvatra. The Supreme Lord is everywhere and anywhere. God is sarvatra all of the time. There is no exception. There is no space lacking His presence. Someone like Hiranyakashipu insists on proof. Hiranyakashipu is Prahlada’s father. The two were once participants in the age-old debate, as to whether God exists are not.
Of course, Hiranyakashipu was not peaceful. He would not settle for logic, reasoning, and words of wisdom. He had to see visible proof. He wanted the empirical evidence. He demanded that Prahlada provide that evidence, when the father insisted upon it. Prahlada had to produce the evidence from an arbitrary space, as well. From the nearby pillar, which the father would strike in a mocking way, but also with rage. If God did not appear from the pillar, then Prahlada was wrong. In fact, the whole society of devotees, whose teachings, influence, and relevance are timeless, would be wrong.
Hiranyakashipu happened to be a special person. He was so inimical, so abusive, so intense in his hatred of Vishnu, that the proof would indeed manifest. It showed itself in the most amazing way, in the vision of a half-man/half-lion. Named Narasimha, that appearance of Vishnu has been worshiped ever since.
In Closing:
No amount of proof to receive,
To make fraudsters ever to believe.
Dishonest already to their core,
Track-record of exploiting before.
Still the father at table with seat,
Threatened his own son to defeat.
If God from the pillar not showing,
Soon avatara of Narasimha knowing.
